Last night marked the nomination special for the 55th Annual
Grammy Awards. Exciting, right? Just keep reading and find out. I strictly want to talk about the nominations since the
performances had thrown me off, from when the show opened with Taylor Swift beat
boxing. Any who, speaking of Taylor she co-hosted the festival alongside LL
Cool J in her hometown of Nashville, TN.
The first nominations of the night were ''Best Pop Vocals''.
The nominees were: Kelly Clarkson’s
Stronger, Florence + the Machine Ceremonials, Fun. Some Nights, Maroon 5
Overexposed and Pink The Truth About Love. I don't keep up too much with pop
music. But Pink is always a fine singer so that's a plus.
''Best New Artist'' was next on the agenda and the nominees
were the following: Alabama Shakes, fun, Hunter Hayes, the Lumineers and Frank
Ocean. I literally only knew two out the five that were nominated. Of course
the Grammys are a lot more critical when it comes to actual ''talent''. But
nominating artist that the viewers actually know wouldn't hurt.
The biggest award of the night ''Album of The Year''
consisted of the following nominees: The Black Keys ‘’El Camino’’, fun ‘’Some
Nights’’, Mumford and Sons ‘’Babel’’,
Frank Ocean ‘’Channel Orange’’ and
Jack White ‘’Blunderbuss’’. Yeah, the
names alone could put me to sleep. Can' say I agree or disagree with this one
as I have not heard none these albums.
Of course we can't talk about nominations without mentioning
the snubs. I honestly cackled when Justin Bieber and Nicki Minaj fans raided
the internet over their favorites not being nominated. Something people will
have to understand is, the Grammys nominate off of talent. Being popular and
putting out mediocre music is not worthy.
At the end of the night there was a six way tie for the top
number of nominations: fun, Jay-Z, Dan Auer Bach of The Black Keys, Mumford
& Sons, Frank Ocean and Kanye West lead the nominations with six apiece.
Head over to the Grammys official website for the complete list of nominations. The 55th Annual Grammy Awards air Sunday, Feb. 10th.
